About Roof Elixir

An independent referee for a young, loudly-sold category. Who we are, how we make money, and why prevention comes first in everything we publish.

What Roof Elixir is

Roof Elixir is an independent guide to roof rejuvenation — the spray-on shingle conditioners that promise to keep asphalt roofs flexible, granule-covered and out of the landfill a few years longer. We publish the costs, the chemistry, the DIY method, and the evidence for and against, in plain language.

Why "referee" is our whole business model

This category is young, growing fast, and sold hard — by dealer networks with five-figure tickets to protect on one side, and by a shingle industry that formally advises against the entire idea on the other. In the middle stands a homeowner with a $10,000 decision and nobody whose only job is to tell them the truth.

That's us. We take no placement money, we carry no manufacturer's badge, and we are nobody's official partner. Our comparisons run on published specs and published prices. When the evidence is thin, the page says so. Our editorial line — prevention first: treat sound roofs early, on a five-year rhythm, and never ask a maintenance product to perform a repair — comes straight from the research, not from a sponsor.

How we make money

Some links on this site are affiliate links (Amazon and others), which pay a small commission at no extra cost to you; the disclosure sits at the bottom of every page, in full. Affiliate income funds the guides. It does not buy rankings: our current top pick earned its slot with a peer-reviewed paper, not a payout.

What's next

We're following the category the way we cover it — carefully. If a conditioner ever carries the Roof Elixir name, it will have to win its place in our own comparison table first, caveats and all. Until then, we referee.
